Our Spring Campout!

Goldhead State Park, KeyStone Heights, FL (just outside Jacksonville, FL) – Hello SONG Family! It is time for our Spring Campout Again! We are so lucky to have some SONG members in Florida hosting us in Northern Florida this Spring! THE DATES ARE: FRIDAY, APRIL 6-8, 2007. We will gather for building connections and relationships, healing, fun, and talking politics. Just think: a whole group of folks united around building a world without racism, classism, gender oppression, homophobia, and transphobia!!!! (What could be more fun?) The majority of SONG’s members are Lesbian, Gay, Bi, and Trans folks who want to bring their whole selves into their work for liberation. At our gatherings, straight-identified allies are also welcome. If you believe in the vision of SONG, you are more than invited! Don’t know much about SONG? You are still very welcome!!! (Read below for more info about us!)

Where is this campout gonna be?
In a beautiful part of Northern Florida, complete with trails, swimming holes, and beautiful weather! Not far from the beach. For more info: Check out: http://www.floridastateparks.org/goldhead/default.cfm.

“What would happen in one woman told the truth about her life?
The world would split open.”

– From: “Kathe Kollwitz” by Muriel Rukeseyer

On Love

“Gaining access to Material privilege alone will never satisfy needs of the Spirit. These hungers persist and haunt us. We seek to satisfy those cravings by endless consumption, appetites that easily turn into addictions that can never be satisfied. Needs of the Spirit can only be satisfied when we care for the Soul. Our ancestors knew this. Only a politics of conversion where we return to love can save us.” -bell hookslovefesthands.jpg

Thoughts on Moral Revolution

Poetics For Liberation

Suzanne Pharr’s Article: “From Welfare Queens to Gay Marriage”

This article looks at the connections between the rightwing’s attacks on LGBTQ folks and all low-income women of color and the “gay marriage agenda”.

Suzanne Pharr’s Article: “Inside/Out: Democratic Participation and Economic Justice In Our Own Organizations”

“Inside/Out” is an excellent article written by one of SONG’s founders. It can be used as a tool for groups and organizations to ask ourselves questions about how we are doing our work, and what our methods and processes mean for the work of building a movement.
